These days lathes are motorized which makes for much easier work, although the theory behind them is the same.

A minihobby woodworking lathe costs anywhere between $300 and $1000 depending on where you shop and is ideal for anyone who enjoys working with small detailed items. You will be surprised how many different projects can be done with the help of a lathe. There are instructional DVDs that you can get that show you how to make the most of your new equipment.
